Beetle Drive
Many thanks to Sue & Dave for organising the evening and congratulations to
Tony Homer for coming first and commiserations to Roger Illingworth who came last.
Burton Agnes Hall
A pleasant but extremely hot day at a new venue for us. Not just MGs but a wide range of all classic cars.
Profit from the show was donated to cancer research.
Chequers Inn
Twenty two members enjoyed a very good ‘carvery’ main course and even better ‘puds’.
Thanks to Brian and Barbara for organising the evening.
Jorvik Run
The one hundred mile run commenced from Castle Howard and traversed around the highways
and byways of the Yorkshire moors returning to Castle Howard.
A very pleasant run interspaced by main roads and country lanes.
Spridget50 – The Big Party.
Saturday 24th May saw almost 1000 cars turn up at the Heritage Motor Centre at Gaydon
to celebrate 50 years of the Austin Healey Sprite and the MG Midget (commonly known as Spridgets).
The event took 18 months to plan and involved the efforts and members of five different clubs,
MG Owners Club, Midget and Sprite Club, MG Car Club, Healey Drivers Club and the Austin Healey Club
Needless to say this was an event which any Midget owner needed to be at and so Rob, Norma and Thomas Higgs
and Helen and Jonathon Andrews drove the 300 mile round trip to be a part of the party.
Despite this being a Bank Holiday weekend the weather remained dry and sunny, although a strong breeze meant that
Rob didn’t realize how sunny it was until his face was redder that most of the Spridgets on display!.
Every model of Spridget was represented on the day from one of the very first Frogeye Sprites (reg PBL 75) to the
very last Midget off the production line (on display in the Heritage Museum) along with the various customised models
such as the Lehman and Sebring Sprites . There were also Concours d’elegance and Pride of Ownership Competitions
and several guest speakers throughout the day including Don Hayter (responsible for the Frogeye Sprite Production at
Abingdon and for styling the MGB) and Mike Garton (Sprite Racing Driver).
Overall this was an excellent day and as all money raised during the event is to be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support
it was a worthwhile one as well.
Thanks to Rob Higgs for the report.
