Start up run

We met for coffee at The George at Wormald Green, they were most accommodating and we could use it again as a starting point.

We headed east through villages to Boroughbridge, turned north and went up through Sessay, Carlton Husthwaite and up to Kilburn.

Drove past the White Horse and the gliding club to the A170.

Left the A170 to drive back down through Ampleforth, Flaxton and on to Stamford Bridge before finishing at Elvington Air Museum.

John Wilkins had pre-booked the NAAFI for us and then took members on a guided tour of the museum to finish the afternoon.

Many thanks to Alan and John for a good start to the season, even if the weather was rather cool.

Club Night

The club night was not what most people had expected. Philip Harvey came to give a talk on ‘The Story of a Dale’

The dale was Amberdale and existed only in his garage.

He had spent fifty years building the model ‘village’ which had expanded to village, mine, town, railway and mill, in fact a model dale.

The photography was fascinating, made easier he said by digital cameras, and he presented the talk as a computer slide show.

He demonstrated the scale by a hansom cab which could sit on his thumb nail.

An enthralling evening.

Bobby Shafto Weekend

Members met up at Boroughbridge to follow a route up to Spennymoor devised by Paul Redfearn.

The run was almost incident free but do we really need a break down as an excuse to find a good pub for lunch.

Most of us enjoyed lunch at The Carpenters Arms, Felixkirk even if it was only ten miles from the start.

After lunch we continued on our way up across the edge of the north Yorkshire moors only to have the same car splutter to a halt again.

After a third breakdown we persuaded them to call out the ‘Big truck with the flashing lights’ and they went home to come back later in a newer MG.

The meal and hotel were excellent as usual and we were joined on Sunday by three other cars for the run.

The run itself went to Alston for lunch and back to Whitworth Hall for the presentations.
