Welsh Weekend

Four couples met at Hartshead Moor services early(ish) Friday morning and travelled motorways to just north of Chester.

Having met up with David and Janet we went on down past Wrexham to Llangollen where we stopped for lunch and a gentle stroll.

We then followed the A5 to Corwen and turned down to Bala and a coffee stop.

Down through the Snowdonia national park and to the hotel by the side of Tal-y-llyn.

Time for a drink, wash and brush up and then there were fourteen for dinner.

Saturday saw two parties off in different directions.

One went north through the hills to Portmeirion and came back along the coast road, with a paddle at Barmouth.

The other party went south to Aberystwyth and for a ride on the Vale of Rheidol narrow gauge railway up to Devil’s Bridge.

Sunday was the Tom Rolt rally day but unfortunately the weather was rather inclement. Members left for indoor pursuits about lunchtime.

The marquee at the show blew down Sunday night and the show was abandoned for Monday. Most of us were heading for home that

morning anyway.

June 1st - Beamish

Six cars attempted to attend this show but four cars  turned round and returned home as the weather was rather wet.

Brian and Barbara were rather braver (dafter?) than the rest of us and arrived at Beamish to a muddy field.

This was the last show to be held there by the Durham MG club.

June 14th - Knaresborough Bed Race

Cars went on display at Henshaw’s Craft centre. It was raining as we arrived but the weather

improved by the time the race started and stayed sunny the rest of the day.

We had an excellent viewpoint of the bed race, watching teams of six push the floats round the course finishing by crossing the river.

An enjoyable day but not sure if we were needed as an attraction as not many people came to look at the cars.

June 19th - Pub Night

Seventeen members turned up for an enjoyable meal at The Queens Head at Kettlesing.

As usual the seating arrangement was drastically altered to allow us to sit together. An excellent evening.

June 22nd - St Michael’s Hospice

Seven MG’s plus a Triumph non member attended this event to raise money for the hospice.

Unfortunately the continental food market couldn’t attend so everyone had to make do with home made sandwiches.

On a cold and windy day the public decided not to attend in great numbers either so I hope the hospice made some money for their

worthy cause.

June 29th - Club Run - Sunday Lunch

Ten members went for Sunday lunch at the Shoulder of Mutton, Kirkby Overblow. An excellent meal.
