Boroughbridge

Our first show of the year. A good turnout of eleven cars had a stand at the old show ground, Stump Cross.

Although the weather was a little mixed, sunshine but with a bitter cold wind, we had a good time.

There were plenty of stalls to attract all, car parts, models, plants etc.

They had a succession of cars in the arena in various classes and were awarding prizes for the best models.

Pub Night - Old Station, Birstwith

We had not been to this venue for some time but they did not disappoint.

Fourteen members enjoyed good food at reasonable prices.

Club Night

Another entertaining evening with budding Jenson Buttons’.

Pleased to note that most members drive their MGs more

sedately as the scalextric cars spent most of their time spinning off the track.

Congratulations to Alan in winning the event.

Jorvik run

Once again this run started and finished in the splendid surroundings of

Castle Howard and as is usual for us on this run we met at the start.

Some of our group were impatient to start and had left before the last car arrived.

The positive side is that last years comments had been heeded and the coffee shop was open for a complimentary cuppa before the run.

It was a typical Jorvik run – rather long (104 miles) - O.K. for those living close by but a long day in old cars for those

travelling 30 or 40 miles to the start (and then back home again).

The route took us around the Wolds with the high points having the potential to give good views had the weather not been overcast.

From Castle Howard we headed south towards Market Weighton skirting Pocklington on the way and then turned

east towards Beverley before turning north again via Calwick, Great Kelv,

Burton Agnes and Burton Fleming where the route turned westward to return to base.

The day seemed to have been enjoyed by all but the concensus of opinion appeared to be that we

preferred the views and scenery offered by the North Yorkshire Moors.

Our thanks go to all involved with the organisation.

Kimber Weekend

Three couples set off on a fine Saturday morning to head down to Derbyshire for the Kimber Run.

After a short stretch on the M1 we left the motorway and headed round the northern edge of Sheffield led by Alan.

We drove along a private road alongside the reservoir near Stocksbridge and headed to Lady Bower and lunch at the Bridge Inn.

From there it was only a short drive to the Rising Sun at Bamford in the Hope Valley and our overnight stay.

Having checked in we went off to spend the afternoon in Buxton.

When we got back to the hotel the other three couples that were travelling back from Jersey joined us for dinner.

We had a very good meal in excellent company and retired to bed for an early start the following morning.

When we arrived at Chatsworth for the run Harry and Arnie were already there waiting for us.

The organisers had changed from their usual pattern of three routes and places to visit.

This year everybody took the same route and we did a sixty mile circular tour

of the Peak district to the west of Chatsworth, driving through Hope and Eyam.

Alan led us back home, through Sheffield, drawing on his local knowledge of the area.

Many thanks to him for the organisation and not losing us over the weekend.

Jersey 2009

On Thursday April 30th 5 adventurous cars arrived in Jersey – not, as we had hoped, in glorious sunshine but in pouring rain! Things

improved the next day and the sun shone, albeit with a slightly chilly breeze, so we gave the cars a rest, and spent the day walking or

cycling along the seafront between St. Helier and the Corbiere lighthouse.

In the evening we attended the first official event of the rally at the Jersey Bowl (as in ten pin bowling!).

This was slightly disorganised, as the speaker failed to turn up, but the bowling was good

(we should have been prepared – the instructions for getting to the hotel were in the rally pack given to us at the hotel!)

We passed on the driving skills test on Saturday morning and visited the Jersey War Tunnels instead,

which were very thought provoking, and extremely cold.

Our Arabic outfits at the Saturday night ‘do’ went down well, but didn’t manage to win a prize,

nor did we manage any silverware at the concours on Sunday (held in St. Helier ‘same place as last year’ – not much use if it’s your first visit!).

However, after the Scavenger Hunt on Monday, which caused much hilarity as cars went every which way round the island,

Roger and Gloria were awarded the cup for travelling the farthest distance from home to Jersey,

so we didn’t come home completely empty handed. After a lovely day on Tuesday meandering along the coast, and another

excellent meal in the hotel, we managed to win the evening quiz, which was a pretty good finale to an excellent trip.

Thanks should go to Jan and Paul for the original idea and wonderful organisation of it all.

Anniversary 2010

As most of you now know Harrogate MG club is celebrating 25 years next year. (Happy birthday to you)

Although we have been given a lot of past material to use next year

old photographs seem to be in short supply.

We require anything from 1985 right up to the present day.

Everything will be returned to you after use.

We have been throwing ideas around at Committee meetings and would like possible feedback from members:

Do we do something special at the Dinner in March?

Would you prefer a Special club run?

Although the actual founding date is in March would you like a Summer meal?

Do we wait for the year end and do something special at Xmas?

We are still trying to contact previous members who may like to join our celebrations.

If you know any ask them to contact Alan.

George is putting together a calendar and would like photographs of cars.

If they are taken at ‘unusual’ locations it would vary the look from month to month.

Perhaps in front of a stately home, an unusual landscape,

just something different.

Please e-mail to susanp543f@fsmail.net or give to George at

meeting nights as soon as possible.
