Foxglove Covert

28 members in 15 cars left Morrisons car park at 9am prompt. Glorious weather all day.
Travelled by A1(M), Masham, Cowling, Thirn, Newton Le Willows, Patrick Brompton, Scotton and to Catterick Garrison.

Entrance to the reserve is via Cambrai Barracks - the home of the Royal Lancers.
Car Parking at Foxglove Covert Local Nature

Reserve has been improved since our last visit in Oct 2007.
Sophie gave us a tour of the reserve lasting approx 90 mins. and we saw all the improvements that had been made since we last went.

Lots of bird life and we saw birds that had been caught in the mist netting at various locations.

Also saw Roe deer and lots of toads.
Following the 'tour' we visited the bird ringing room and watched the volunteers ringing the birds that had been caught in the mist netting.

Many species were being ringed including Blue Tits, Coal Tits, Red Poll, Chaffinches, a tiny Goldcrest etc.
Lunch was arranged for the Bolton Arms at Downholme - very good.
It was an excellent day out and a good way to 'Start Up' our summer season with our MG's.

The Fox at Menston

Sixteen members had an extremely good evening meal at this bistro pub.

Sitting at one large table seemed to enhance the evening.

It was our first visit here but members said they would like to return at a future date.

Cricket St. Thomas 2010

Five cars enjoyed a fantastic weekend at Cricket St. Thomas. We all managed to arrive at about the same time,

so after checking in we had a  stroll round the beautiful grounds and then afternoon tea (or beer in some cases!)

sitting outside Cricket House, the stunning location for “To The Manor Born”.

A quick change into the glad rags, then we were back for a Bucks Fizz reception followed by an excellent dinner.

Entertainment cabaret style in the ballroom was followed by Neil (comedian/singer) in the bar,

who had us in stitches and kept us up until after midnight (unheard of for some members!!).

Saturday dawned bright and sunny, and many participated in country pursuits, rifle and clay

pigeon shooting, and archery, to name but a few.  We then set out in the MG’s to the seaside,

minus Gloria and Roger (who had managed to do so well in the clay pigeon shooting that he had to stay for the final),

and John and Val who’s Midget gear box had decided to make very strange noises.

Roger and Gloria finally caught us up (Roger having not quite won!) and a late lunch was taken in a wonderful café right by the beach.

All that was left after that was a leisurely drive back to Cricket,  dressing for dinner in our red and white themed outfits

– it was St. Georges weekend – and eating and being entertained again.

Sunday was bright but colder, and after losing in the first round of the Petanque competition we all opted for our own excursions,

which included the Giant at Cerne Abbas, Lyme Regis and Beer, while those left behind

(the Midget was definitely not playing ball) enjoyed welly wanging and quoits.

We returned in time to have a look at the decorated cars, again with a St. Georges theme,

and then it was time to don best bib and tucker for the champagne reception and gala dinner.

A leisurely breakfast on Monday morning saw us all ready for the journey home.

We waved John and Val off on a low loader, and then set off in our different directions,

some straight home and others prolonging the holiday a little longer.

Cricket St. Thomas will be repeated in 2012, this time with an Olympic theme – we are all keen to go again,

and would thoroughly recommend it. The hotel was excellent, we couldn’t fault the food or the service, and the organisation was brilliant.

Definitely one to be added to the calendar.

Club Regalia

For 2010 why not get a new piece of club clothing.

Also available is the new special souvenir piece for our Silver Jubilee Year. Only available in 2010.

The usual items that we do are:

Ladies or Men’s Polo Shirt, Green with Gold Logo or White with Green Logo

Men’s Sweatshirt, Green with Gold Logo

Rugby Shirts, Green with Gold Logo

Lady fit V-neck T-shirt, White with Green logo

If you are going away on a club holiday, and would like a special set of clothing in a different colour, with the logo on, this can easily be arranged.

Available for this year only. Why not be one of the first to own a special souvenir piece for the Silver Jubilee.

It would have Harrogate MG Club in an arc above the logo and dates instead of being in the middle, would be straight across the bottom. The clothing will be available to view at the Dinner Dance and orders can be placed on the night.

They would cost about £3-£5 more than with the standard logo.

For all items just give me a ring on 01423 871307 if I am not at club night.

We have limited items in stock but any piece can be ordered, one at a time.
