Harrogate MG 2009

Despite the heavy showers during the setup and on Saturday the day of the event was fine and dry if not exactly a heatwave.

We had a record entry for Concours, well done to Brian and his team for coping with everything last minute.

Even with these numbers the award presentation was organised on time.

Two of our members won prizes, Chris Robinson winning Premier Condition class with his V8 chrome bumper roadster

and Dave Brown winning the award for best chrome bumper roadster in the Show having narrowly missed out on the Masters Prize.

Other attractions alongside Mal, the magician, were the P.R.A.T.S, the Pateley real ale tasting society, a Yorkshire long sword dance team.

Their energy and enthusiasm were much applauded and appreciated by our visitors.

They were joined at times by John Page, one of our members, who plays accordion for a ‘rival’ team of Morris dancers and it gave us a taste of his talents.

Many visiting Clubs added to the displays of MGs and the winner of the best club stand award  went to Lune & Wyre.

The older MGs were represented by the Octagon Club and other marques added to the quality cars that were on display.

The local supplier, Drivestyle, of new MG cars brought along a few sports cars to tempt the pocket

and you could also buy spares for your existing models from many of the trade stands that were present.

Our thanks to MGOC for supporting the Event, to all the judges who made it possible and

especially to members without whom none of it would be possible.

Picnic at Burnsall

Met at Wildings in Pateley for coffee. A mixture of tops up and tops down, that sort of day.

Took pretty route, in convoy, through Grassington to Burnsall. Parked in an area roped off for us

but the owner moved us to a less windy spot alongside the river.

Had an enjoyable picnic, ice creams and a few outdoor games.

Members made their own way home on the route best suited to them.

Kirkstall Abbey Car Show

An enjoyable first show which raised about £800 for St Gemma’s Hospice.

About 80 cars of many marques attended and they hope to repeat the show next year.

Burley in Wharfedale Car Show

Held on the cricket ground as part of Burley in Wharfedale’s festival week this also attracted about 80 cars.

There were other attractions to visit a short walk away in the village.

 Starbeck Gala

A few members turned up to support this local gala.

The aim being to raise money for Christmas lights for the area.

There were many attractions and other local causes to support.
